Jorge Blanco > Havana De El Morro

Built in 1589 and located at the entrance to the Bay of Havana, the Morro protected the Old City from pirates and invaders. From the Morro gun turrets, we overlook the old city, entrance to the harbor, and the Vedado region to the far right.
Jorge Blanco > El Malecó de la Havana

A panoramic view of Havana showing the famous Malecón, a four mile seafront pedestrian promenade winding along the city’s historic quarters from the colonial center to the Vedado. The Malecón was designed by an American engineer named, Mead and built from 1902-1921. The Malecón became a link between the old and the new of Havana.

Jorge Blanco > Iglesia de la Merced

This church’s lavish interior decorations date to the 19th century. The church is popular with those who follow the Afro Cuban religion of Santería and is an example of how different religions coexist in Cuba.
Jorge Blanco > Havana Kitchen

With the seemingly deliberate art deco style, this is the typical look of the Havana Kitchen.
We are home from the market. traditional dishes past down to us are alive and well in Cuba. In this simple kitchen a feast in the Creole style of Cuba is born. Cubans love their food and drink.
Jorge Blanco > New Havana – Cuban Dryer

With electricity at times suspect, the old fashion clothesline is adapted to this Vedado high-rise. New Havana or the Vedado was envisioned in the mid-1800s. Prior to this it was forbidden to build in order to have an unobstructed view of all vessels approaching the city. The area was later enlarged becoming a prestigious residential area. Today, the Vedado stands as Havana’s political and cultural center. A walk through this area will provide a glimpse of the odd architectural mix of the 1950s high-rises and the deteriorating neo classical mansions.
Jorge Blanco > Lighthouse of El Morro

This view captures the lighthouse through a window located in the command and control center building, which is used to control the entrance into Havana Harbor by ship.

The current lighthouse was built in 1845. Made is made of stone it stilland uses the original lamp.
Jorge Blanco > Stairs, El Morro

These stairs lead to the deck of el Morro. The lighting gives off a surreal feeling. Can you tell what’s photograph asks what is up? Or What’sWhat is down?
